2025 Volkswagen Tiguan

2025 Volkswagen
Tiguan

Volkswagen’s best-selling Tiguan has been reinvented for the 2025 model year, marking the third generation of this beloved compact crossover. Built on the updated MQB evo platform, it now has a higher front end, slimmer headlights, and a more athletic profile with pronounced shoulder lines. The platform updates include a shorter rear overhang and a slightly longer wheelbase, which contribute to increased cabin space while transitioning to a two-row configuration exclusively for the U.S. Plus, the interior design is cleaner and centered around new digital displays, enhanced storage solutions, and a column-mounted gear selector that frees up console space.

The redesigned Tiguan blends technology with practicality through an upgraded infotainment system and new comfort features. Approximately 170 pounds of weight reduction was achieved by removing the third row and increasing the use of lightweight materials, including aluminum suspension components and high-strength steel. These improvements, along with a more powerful engine, mean improved performance and efficiency.

Like all 2025 Volkswagens, the Tiguan is backed by the company’s extensive four-year or 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. Customers also benefit from VW’s Scheduled Carefree Maintenance program, which provides complimentary standard servicing for two years or 20,000 miles.

Trims and Powertrain

Volkswagen offers this latest and greatest Tiguan in four trims: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line. A revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine provides 201 horsepower – 17 more hp over its predecessor. An eight-speed automatic transmission manages the standard front-wheel drive (FWD) or the optional 4Motion all-wheel drive (AWD) system (which is standard on the SEL R-Line). The Tiguan can tow up to 1,500 pounds with FWD and 1,800 pounds with AWD if it’s appropriately equipped.

You’ll find 26.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, which expands to 58.9 cubic feet when the seatback is folded down. The S trim with FWD has been rated by the EPA to achieve 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, while the other FWD-equipped trims will achieve 25 mpg around town and 32 mpg on the open road. The fuel economy estimation for any trim with AWD is 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway.

Standard Features

The Tiguan S has proximity keyless entry, heated front seats, push-button ignition, wireless device charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED exterior lighting, automatic headlamps with adaptive lighting and heated washer nozzles, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and fabric upholstery. Other standard equipment includes heated power side mirrors, leatherette wrapping for the steering wheel, roof rails, rain-sensing intermittent windshield washers, four USB ports (two per row), and 17-inch alloy wheels. The SE is improved with remote start, V-Tex leatherette upholstery, a remote power tailgate, an eight-way power driver's seat, ten-color ambient cabin lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an anti-theft alarm system, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The SE R-Line Black brings a sporty touch with unique exterior accents, brushed stainless-steel pedals, and 20-inch black-finished alloy wheels. It also gets a head-up display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and illuminated exterior door handles. The SEL R-Line is equipped similarly to the SE R-Line Black (minus some of the black exterior treatments) but with the addition of a power panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power liftgate, a driver's memory system, an eight-way power driver's seat, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated second-row outboard seats, power-folding side mirrors with puddle lights, front and rear light bars with illuminated VW badges, front poor weather lights, and 30-color ambient cabin lighting. Exclusive to the top-end trim is the Atmospheres feature, which synchronizes ambient lighting with audio to create different interior moods.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Volkswagen equips every 2025 Tiguan with IQ.DRIVE, the automaker’s Level 2 driver-assist suite. Its components include Travel Assist for semi-automated driving, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and Emergency Assist (technology that can stop the vehicle if the driver is rendered unresponsive). Front and rear parking sensors are also standard, along with automatic high beams and an exit warning system. The SEL R-Line adds a surround-view monitor, traffic sign recognition, and semi-autonomous parking technology. All trims are equipped with an array of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Most trims have a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, while the SEL R-Line is upgraded with a 15-inch unit. The standard multimedia components are wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, and access to myVW connected services. The lower trims’ unbranded audio system is upgraded to a 12-speaker Harman Kardon arrangement in the SEL R-Line.
