Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Competitors for Sale in West Warwick, RI

The crossover segment is certainly one of the most popular vehicle segments in the U.S, and as a result, buyers are becoming more selective. This can be difficult, though, given the large selection of crossovers being manufactured by the major brands. To make the decision a little easier, we’ve researched some comparable models from this segment and compared them to the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan. Some models it contends with include the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Subaru Forester, Nissan Rogue, and Mazda CX-5. Let’s take a closer look.

Safety and Convenience

One feature that the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan includes on its base trim that many competitors don’t is blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. This active safety feature is generally reserved for higher-level trims; this is the case with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, and Subaru Forester. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is also quite spacious. Its maximum cargo volume of 65.7 cubic feet outdoes the Hyundai Tucson’s 61.9 cu. ft., the Kia Sportage’s 60.1 cu. ft., and the Mazda CX-5’s 59.6 cu. ft. The other compared models’ cargo areas are slightly more accommodating than the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan’s, but at the expense of their passenger volume. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan yields 123.9 cu. ft. of passenger space, which is more than the CR-V (105.9 cu. ft.), RAV4 (98.9 cu. ft.), CX-5 (103.6 cu. ft.), Tucson (102.2 cu ft.), Forester (111.9 cu. ft.), and Rogue (105.8 cu. ft.).

4Motion All-Wheel Drive

4MOTION is VW’s special AWD system that automatically sends power to the wheels that need the most traction. With 4MOTION, power is directed between the front and rear axles on a continuously variable basis. Under normal circumstances, this power is sent to the front axle to save energy; however, when a loss of traction is detected by 4MOTION’s intricate sensors, the rear axle becomes activated in a fraction of a second to provide better grip in slick conditions.

This administration of power to each of the four wheels activates before wheelspin occurs, greatly reducing loss of traction. In the event that wheelspin does occur, power will be transmitted to the wheels as needed. While each of the rivals mentioned on this page has its own AWD system, one of the most obvious benefits of 4MOTION is that it allows drivers to switch between different drive modes in order to help in particular driving situations. This includes specific settings for Snow, On-Road, Off-Road, and Off-Road Custom. While the CR-V, RAV4, Tucson, Sportage, Rogue, and CX-5 also include selectable drive modes, they’re not as precise as the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan’s.

Volkswagen’s bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage last for 4 years/50,000 miles, which is longer than Honda’s, Toyota’s, Subaru’s, Nissan’s, and Mazda’s coverage of the same. But buyers and lessees of any 2020 VW model will get two years of complimentary scheduled maintenance. The only other models in this comparison that come with complimentary maintenance are the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson.
