Trims and Powertrains

The 2025 Taos comes in trim levels called S, SE, SE Black, and SEL. They all get the aforementioned updated turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that now produces 174 horsepower, an increase of 16 hp from the 2024 model. An eight-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the seven-speed dual-clutch unit, completes the powertrain. 4Motion all-wheel drive is optional.

Standard Features

The S comes well equipped with remote start, heated front seats, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, cloth seating surfaces, automatic on/off LED projector headlights, an 8-inch digital cockpit, roof rails, heated side mirrors, heated washer nozzles (4Motion only), and 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels (18-inch with 4Motion). The SE trim upgrades to upholstery in a marriage of CloudTex and the same cloth seen in the base trim. It also adds an eight-way power driver’s seat, an adaptive front lighting system, HVAC touch controls, a leatherette-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, rear console A/C vents, wireless charging, and 18-inch wheels. A panoramic glass roof is available.

The SE Black builds on the SE’s features with a panoramic sunroof and distinctive styling elements that include a black roof, black mirror caps, black illuminated grille, and model-specific wheels (18-inch with FWD, 19-inch with AWD). The SEL stands at the top of the trim hierarchy with leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a larger 10.25-inch digital cockpit, ambient cabin lighting, an illuminated grille, and unique 19-inch wheels.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Every 2025 Taos comes standard with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver-assist features. This comprehensive safety tech package consists of adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance), forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane assist, and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in medical emergencies). The SE and above get front and rear parking sensors, while the SEL includes road sign display.

Infotainment and Connectivity

An 8-inch floating infotainment touchscreen is now standard across all Taos trims. The system is integrated into the newly designed dashboard, creating a more modern appearance. Its main components are a sound system, Bluetooth, smartphone connection (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), a Wi-Fi hotspot, and access to Volkswagen Car-Net connected services. Higher trims are upgraded with wireless smartphone connect, SiriusXM satellite radio, and voice recognition.
