Trims and Powertrains

Volkswagen offers three ID. Buzz trims: Pro S, Pro S Plus, and the limited-run 1st Edition. All of them have a single 282-horsepower electric motor, a 91-kWh battery, and a standard rear-wheel-drivetrain (RWD). The Pro S Plus and 1st Edition are available with 4MOTION all-wheel drive (AWD), which adds an electric motor to the front axle and raises the output to 335 horsepower.

The EPA estimates a range of 234 miles and a combined 83 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) rating for RWD versions. With AWD, there’s a negligible dip in range to 231 miles, with a combined MPGe rating of 80. Volkswagen estimates that the ID. Buzz’s battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 26 minutes via Level 3/DC fast charging at 200 kW. Buyers receive 500 kWh of complimentary charging at Electrify America and a three-year pass for reduced charging rates.

When it’s been properly equipped, an ID. Buzz with 4MOTION AWD can tow up to 3,500 pounds, whereas RWD limits that capacity to no more than 2,600 pounds. The luggage compartment has convenient LED lighting and a capacity of 18.6 cubic feet with all three rows in use. That potential space becomes 75.5 cubic feet behind the second row and reaches 145.5 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded and the third row removed.

Seating

The Pro S comes with a second-row bench seat for a seven-passenger seating capacity. With RWD, the Pro S Plus and 1st Edition have the same seating arrangement, but a second-row captain’s chair package (changing total seating to six passengers) comes standard in the two higher trims when they have AWD; it’s also an option for the Pro S Plus with RWD. The second-row bench seat and third-row seats slide fore and aft for greater flexibility. All second and third-row seats have child car-seat LATCH anchors and tethers.

Standard Features and Options

The Pro S has a long list of standard amenities that start with advanced keyless access with proximity unlocking, V-Tex leatherette upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats (with 12-way power controls, massage, and memory), a heated steering wheel, LED exterior lighting with adaptive front lighting, power-sliding side doors, power-sliding second-row windows, three zones of Climatronic Touch automatic climate control, a pollen filter, a hands-free power liftgate, and an illuminated exterior Volkswagen logo. This trim also has a removable “Buzz Box” center console with storage, a 5.3-inch driver information display, heated power side mirrors, automatic rain-sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers, heated washer nozzles, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, wireless device charging, multiple USB ports (including a 15-watt connection for a dashcam), and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The upgrades for the Pro S Plus include hands-free power-sliding side doors, a head-up display, a retractable trailer hitch, a heated windshield (AWD only), the Flexboard storage system for a flat cargo floor when the seats are folded down, and a large electrochromic glass roof with transparency controls and two-tone paint is optional for the Pro S Plus and the 1st Edition. These two higher trims also qualify for a two-tone paint treatment.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of advanced driver aids is found in every ID. Buzz. These standard safety technologies consist of forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, Travel Assist semi-autonomous driving support, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. All trims also have exit warning, road sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and semi-autonomous parking assistance with parking memory. The Pro S Plus and 1st Edition also get a surround-view monitor. The ID. Buzz is also set up with a full array of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and rearview monitor with dynamic guidelines.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Infotainment for the ID. Buzz is channeled through a 12.9-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, HD radio, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. All trims have access to subscription-based VW Car-Net connected services, Plus Nav EV (continuously updated maps, routes, traffic, and parking information), and Plus Speech EV (voice control of certain vehicle systems). The Pro S is equipped with a nine-speaker audio system, while the Pro S Plus and 1st Edition upgrade to a Harman Kardon setup with 13 speakers, a subwoofer, and an amplifier.
