The five trim packages for the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas are called SE, SE with Technology, SE Peak Edition, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line. All are outfitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 269 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque; it’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available for the two lowest trims (it comes standard in the SE Peak Edition, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line). The maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
The fuel economy varies by trim and drivetrain, with the FWD SE and SE with Technology achieving an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. AWD versions of those trims return 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway, while the remaining AWD models will carry out 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway.
The SE comes with perforated leatherette upholstery, a heated leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, a power driver’s seat, tri-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, six USB-C ports, a digital gauge cluster, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and split-folding rear seats (60/40 second row and 50/50 third row). On the outside, look for rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive front lighting with dynamic cornering lights, automatic LED headlights, heated side mirrors, and roof rails.
The SE with Technology adds remote start, a 115V power outlet, two extra USB-C ports (for a total of eight), a hands-free liftgate, front and rear LED light bars, a trailer hitch, and manual sunshades. The more aggressive SE Peak Edition is equipped with all-terrain tires, a panoramic sunroof, multi-color adjustable ambient interior lighting, black decorative trim, illuminated dash décor, stainless-steel pedals, and distinctive exterior styling.
The SEL swaps the SE Peak Edition’s rugged features for these upscale amenities: first- and second-row leather upholstery, position memory settings for the driver’s seat, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, heated outboard second-row seats, a head-up display, side mirrors with memory and passenger reverse gear tilt-down, and heated washer nozzles. At the top, the SEL Premium R-Line Black shows off massaging front seats, perforated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, power-folding side mirrors, and trim-specific styling.
Volkswagen installs the IQ.Drive safety suite in every Atlas, providing adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, and driver attention monitoring. Poor weather lights, for extra visibility when conditions are nasty, also come standard. The SE with Technology, SE Peak Edition, and SEL add park distance control (front and rear), while the SEL introduces dynamic road sign display. The SEL Premium R-Line Black is fully loaded with Park Assist w/Park Distance Control (front and rear active parking assist) and a surround-view camera.
Most 2025 Atlas trims come with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system that incorporates wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, an audio system, and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. The SEL and SEL Premium R-Line Black also receive integrated navigation, while the SEL Premium R-Line Black boasts a top-quality Harman Kardon sound system.
