You can get the 2024 Tiguan in any of these four trim packages: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, or SEL R-Line. Their turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 184 hp and 221 lb.-ft. of torque and pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive and a third-row seat are standard in the S, SE, and SE R-Line Black. However, with the available all-wheel drivetrain (which is standard in the SEL R-Line), the third row is deleted.
The Tiguan’s EPA-estimated fuel economy is commendable, with the FWD SE returning 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway and the FWD SEL and SE R-Line Black achieving 23 city/30 highway. With AWD, all trims have the same mpg ratings: 22 city/29 highway.
The entry-level Tiguan S can seat up to seven passengers and comes with proximity keyless entry, heated front seats, automatic LED headlights, roof rails, heated washer nozzles, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a synthetic leather-wrapped steering wheel, a pair of USB-C data ports, and an 8-inch digital gauge cluster. The SE gains remote start, a power liftgate, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, synthetic-leather upholstery, a rear USB-C charging port, and a wireless phone charger.
The SE R-Line Black is similar, but it’s distinguished by a unique exterior with black trim. It also adds a panoramic sunroof, ambient interior lighting, and a special leather-wrapped R-Line steering wheel. The five-passenger SEL R-Line lacks the black trim but retains the other distinctive R-Line attributes. On top of that, it has a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, a sleek front-end light bar, amplified headlights, VW’s 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit gauge cluster, and power-folding side mirrors with position memory and passenger reverse gear tilt-down. This topmost trim’s seating situation is improved with genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a power passenger seat, and driver’s-side position memory.
Every 2024 Tiguan has the comprehensive IQ.DRIVE safety suite installed. It contains adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. Front and rear parking sensors are added at the SE R-Line Black level; the SEL R-Line also gets dynamic road sign display, automatic high beams, a surround-view monitor, and automated parking assistance.
The Tiguan S has a multimedia system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a multi-speaker audio system. The SE and SE R-Line Black upgrade to an 8-inch interface with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio. At the top of the range, the SEL R-Line is loaded, adding integrated navigation and a premium Fender sound system.
