The front-wheel-drive 2024 Jetta is crafted in four exceptional trims: S, Sport, SE, and SEL. Stoking each is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 154-hp four-cylinder engine. The S and Sport have a standard six-speed manual transmission, while the SE and SEL get an eight-speed automatic (it’s optional for the first two trims). According to the EPA’s official fuel economy determinations, the S returns an estimated 30 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway, while the remaining trims achieve 29 city/40 highway.
You’ll be surprised that the S is the entry-level trim, going by its standard equipment list. The highlights include an 8-inch digital gauge cluster (Digital Cockpit), LED headlights, heated exterior mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an steering wheel wrapped in eco-leather, a leather-wrapped shift knob, two USB-C ports, and a 60/40-split folding rear seatback. The Sport adds a few stylistic flourishes, such as black exterior accents, an integrated front-end light bar, and a sleek black headliner along with an XDS cross differential system, heated front seats, and a folding rear center armrest.
The SE goes without the Sport’s black elements, LED light bar, and XDS differential but keeps the heated front seats and rear center armrest. It also gets remote start, proximity keyless entry, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, synthetic-leather upholstery, push-button start, and a pair of rear USB-C charging ports.
The top-tier SEL goes even further with the LED light bar, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats with driver’s position memory, heated outboard second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, heated washer nozzles, side mirrors with position memory, projector-type LED headlights, ambient interior lighting, a configurable 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster (Digital Cockpit Pro), and wireless phone charging.
Every 2024 Jetta is outfitted with the Volkswagen IQ.Drive safety suite, containing adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection (Front Assist), lane keeping assist (Lane Assist), and semi-automated driving assist (Travel Assist). Driver attention monitoring with accident prevention (Emergency Assist) is included in Jettas with the automatic transmission. The SEL gets automatic high beams (Light Assist).
The S, Sport, and SE each come with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system that bundles smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, connected vehicle services through Car-Net, and a sound system. The SEL is upgraded with an 8-inch touchscreen, voice recognition, integrated navigation, wireless smartphone integration, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a BeatsAudio sound system.
