2019 Volkswagen Passat

Volkswagen Passat

Overview

The 2019 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T is a turbocharged, comfortable mid-sized sedan with excellent standard features and impressive active safety equipment. For this model year, it’s back with a simplified lineup of just two trims, the Wolfsburg and SE, and a single engine option. The powerplant for the ’19 Passat is a turbo-charged four-cylinder engine that makes 174 horsepower and is rated by the EPA for 25 city mpg/36 highway mpg. It’s paired with an efficient six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic (wheel-mounted paddle shifters) and Sport mode for a more engaged shift feel; push-button start is standard.

The Wolfsburg trim offers heated front leatherette seats, an information/entertainment system with a 6.3-inch touchscreen, and electronic stability control. A Sunroof and Wheels Package can be tacked on to add 18-inch spoked wheels, a power tilt/slide sunroof, and illuminated vanity mirrors. The SE R-Line adds a rear sport valance, hands-free trunk opener, adaptive cruise control, remote start, interior ambient lighting, and a Fender premium audio system. Various factory accessories along the lines of cargo organization and floor mats can be added to either trim. All Passats are covered by the Volkswagen 6-year/72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, which is transferable down the line to a new owner.

Safety and Technology

The ’19 Passat is built with a crash-optimized front end, a full suite of airbags, and height-adjustable front seat belts. Heated side mirrors and a rear-view camera are standard on both, and the higher trim adds parking sensors and active lane control along with adaptive cruise control.

Alongside the nicely crisp touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth, three USB ports (two in the back row and one in the front), and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard technology features on both trims. VW Car-Net App-Connect is included for seamless device use through the touchscreen system.

Passenger Comfort/Cargo Space

The 2019 Passat delivers a comfortable ride, with ample space – especially legroom – for passengers, and standard heated front seats. The SE is upgraded with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, interior ambient lighting, carbon fiber interior accents, and dual-zone auto climate control. The cargo space in the trunk area comes in at just under 16 cubic feet, and a hands-free open feature for the trunk lid is standard on the higher trim.
